Internships
Internships
Our internships are a collaborative effort between different levels of government, educational institutions, and other not-for-profit organizations. These full-time paid internships (ranging from 8-26 weeks depending on funding partner) teach participants (6-8 per growing season) small-scale regenerative farming practices that are transferable skills for future endeavors.
Hiring preference is given to folks experiencing barriers – primarily those who are BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, low-income or living with disabilities. Under the mentorship of our Community Farm Educator, the interns are responsible for growing, maintaining and harvesting all the produce in our Teaching Gardens.

Learning Opportunities
Our internships offer an immersive learn-to-grow experience. This learning is designed to be flexible and accessible to learners coming from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
We provide small group and one-on-one expertise, support and opportunities for practice throughout your placement. This experience will give you a solid foundation to continue your personal journey in human-scale agriculture after your placement ends.
While hands-on skills are very important, we see your time on the farm as being a holistic learning experience.

Our internships provide opportunities to:
- Develop critical thinking skills about our current food system and where we would like to take it in the future
- Develop or deepen of a sense of community mindedness
- Gain life and employment skills that come from working in a supportive team environment
- Understand a bit more about what it means to be a Treaty Person and support reconciliation
- Contemplate your own connection with nature and what it means to be a good land steward
- Learn food skills to share at home and in your community
Some students may be able to use their internship as a course credit. NBCHG does not offer accreditation and we do not have the resources to facilitate this process, but students can come to an agreement with their school.
Community Inclusion & Equity
All food grown by the interns is distributed to partner organizations that serve vulnerable groups.
We believe in the power of diversity and seek to develop our organization with strong representation of women, people with varied abilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQ2+ and BIPOC communities.
