Open Farm Days are hosted bi-weekly on Saturdays from April-October to invite the broader community to Hayes Farm to learn about regenerative agricultural practices.
These community days feature seasonal eating, gardening or homesteading demonstrations, offering attendees of all ages and abilities a chance to learn new skills, share knowledge, and connect with others who are passionate about organic food and growing our local food system.
Open Farm Days are a cornerstone of our mandate to create an inclusive, educational space where everyone, regardless of background or experience, can come together to grow food, grow minds, and grow community.
Each Open Farm Day will offer tours of our teaching gardens, seasonal eating, gardening and homesteading workshops, children’s activities, a farm stand with freshly harvested produce, and more!
All activities including the seasonal produce are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis to ensure everyone has an opportunity to participate in our local food system.Check our Facebook page for full details.
Information to Know Before You Arrive
- Our events are generally rain or shine, so (barring any dangerous storms) we will go ahead as planned. Please dress for the weather, bring a water bottle (we can refill it for you), and some good shoes.
- Dogs must be kept on a leash and with their owner at all times
- Please park on the street
- The ground around our fields is very uneven, there are parts of the farm that are more accessible than others. We invite you to reach out in advance if you have mobility concerns so that we can help you have a safe and enjoyable tour.
- We have poultry on site – this may be very important for poultry farmers taking bio-control measures to prevent the spread of avian influenza.
- We provide education and engagement, but we are not able to provide childcare. Please make sure you have enough adults in your group to supervise minors.
- Washroom on-site is a composting toilet. It is unfortunately not accessible. We are working on improving our washroom facilities.
