NB COMMUNITY HARVEST GARDENS
Seed Library

The Seed Library is a longstanding partnership between NBCHG and the Fredericton Public Library. We offer locally-adapted, open-pollinated, non-genetically modified seeds to the community at no cost to growers. We have a large selection of popular herbs, flowers, vegetables and annual fruits.

Can’t find what you’re looking for?
NB Community Harvest Gardens has a limited quantity of other seeds used in our programming that may interest you – please email our Garden Director Carol Muncer at carol@nbchg.org for more information.
How Do I Participate?
All you need is your library card and a willingness to:
To learn about seed saving and try to save seeds to donate back to the library
Try to grow your own food using organic practices (no chemical/synthetic pesticides or fertilizers)

How the Seed Library Works
- Visit the Reference Desk at either branch, choose your seeds and sign them out.
- We ask that you limit your selection to one package of each variety, and to a maximum of six packages per visit. Feel free to return to pick up more on another visit.
- Seeds are pre-packaged in quantities that the average family of four would be planting.
- Members who successfully save seeds are asked to return more seeds than they borrowed to the library at the end of the growing season (remembering to keep some for yourself). By doing this our Seed Library will be sustainable.

Seed Saving Tips
We understand that due to circumstances beyond your control, you may not have seeds to return to the Seed Library – please don’t worry, you are still welcome to continue borrowing seeds in the future.
We recommend that you attend a Seed Saving workshop. For more information about upcoming Fredericton Public Library workshops or to be added to the FPL’s programming email list, please contact the Young Adult and Adult Services Dept: 460-2829 – ftonpub@gnb.ca.
We also have some documents you can download or print, with tips about how to save some of the most commonly grown vegetable varieties available in our Resource Library.
Some seeds are easy to save, but others take a bit more skill. Feel free to contact us if you have questions about seed saving. Thanks and happy seed saving!
